  Audits & Inspections

Safety audits and inspections are used to determine, or benchmark, the performance of an organization in relation to loss prevention and OSHA compliance. Whether it’s a corporate recordkeeping audit or a mock OSHA inspection, Piedmont Safety can assist. We have the knowledge and resources necessary to uncover deficiencies and make recommendations to correct the issues before it becomes an issue. Recordkeeping audits include a written report with recommendations and comments. Job-Site Safety inspections include a written report with recommendations, comments, and pictures of non-compliant items discovered during the walk-through. If possible, we will inform the job-site superintendent of the hazard(s) during the inspection and note abatement steps taken.

Injury and Illness Prevention Program Development (I2P2)

The Injury and Illness Prevention Program, or I2P2, is the cornerstone of an organizations safety program and sets the stage for creating a positive safety culture. It represents, in writing, Managements position on workplace safety and the means to address specific hazards within the workplace. It's also used as a guide for Supervisors to understand management’s position on workplace safety and assist them in ensuring workers under their direction follow company safety guidelines as well as the OSHA regulations . The type of business and exposures will dictate the material within the I2P2; the more hazardous activities you have the more in depth your I2P2 must be. After a complete hazard analysis audit of your work-place, Piedmont Safety can assist you in developing an I2P2 that best fits your needs. Programs such as LO/TO, Respiratory Protection and Hearing Conservation are examples of written programs that must be included in your Injury and Illness Prevention Program. Equipment Calibration & Grade "D" Air Checks

If your company requires workers to wear air-supplied respirators for protection from harmful substances, safety Standards require calibrations and air-checks to be completed on a regular frequency. Piedmont Safety can assist in calibrations of carbon monoxide monitors used in applications where oil lubricated air compressors are used to supply breathing air to workers. We can also conduct air- checks to insure workplace air compressors are providing Grade “D” air quality to workers wearing air-supplied respirators.

  Advanced Risk Reduction Programs

  Advanced Risk Reduction Teams
Advanced risk reduction programs are paramount for organizations to achieve safety excellence and long-term safety success (sustainability). The best part of implementing an advanced risk reduction program is that you already have the resources necessary to make it happen – your associates. With management commitment, proper training, and limited guidance from Piedmont Safety Solutions, your own associates' can successfully manage an advanced risk reduction program. Piedmont Safety is committed to assisting its clients in implementing advanced safety programs and allowing associates and the management team to carry out the programs necessary functions. While there are many components to a solid risk reduction program, the two more advanced programs that are often overlooked include: Task Specific Risk Reduction and the implementation of a Behavioral Based Safety Program. These are leading edge safety programs designed to reduce risk of injury within the workplace through task analysis and the shaping of associates' behaviors through observations and feedback.

  Behavioral Based Safety
Shaping behaviors is the key to shifting the safety culture within an organization. BBS is a complex system that requires heavy Management commitment, extensive training, and an in-house person to head up the process. The Risk Reduction Team Leader or Safety Manager is often the point person for the BBS program. The BBS process involves the following elements:
  • Identify behaviors to be shaped
  • Establish checklist or score cards to be used during observations
  • Establish and train associates to complete observations (100% participation)
  • Schedule observations
  • Observers complete observations and score card and return to Leadership
  • Collect, tabulate, and track observation data
  • Post observation data for all to see and report findings to Management / Supervision
  • Introduce “Feedback” concepts to observers / train all observers on giving Feedback
  • Continue observations w/ immediate Feedback (both appreciative and constructive)
  • Retrain respective associates on desired behaviors as needed or celebrate accomplishments with individuals or groups.
  • Recheck for desired behavior(s) every 3-6 months or when a shift in behavior(s) is recognized
  • Never use the BBS program to discipline associates for unsafe behaviors
